Here is the Flight Aware data for our ride home yesterday/today. 16+ hrs. A bit knackered, but it was worth it. The entire trip went off amazingly well. Everyone had a good time, no major travel issues, good weather and no illnesses. Can’t ask for much more than that.

What did the flight from ATL to South Africa cost? My wife was talking about wanting to go there and we know a couple that are vets and have their own reserve there who have invited us down.

That has to b
e close to one of the longest flights there is. I think this duration w
ould break my policy of not pooping on a plane.

No pooping required, but found a restroom on landing.

Like a lot of things it depends on timing, routing and what comforts you want while on the plane. I just priced out going down there two weeks from now based on your question and it is $1500 pp in the main cabin. A Delta One business class ticket is $11k! Before you say that is nuts, business class was full on both legs of my flight.
Other routings take people through Europe and down to Africa. Shop around.

Hmm, from Boston, I can leave Friday 5/3 and return Sunday 5/19 for $812 round-trip on Virgin Atlantic , seems like a bargain (though with a highly suboptimal 21 total hours of layover at Heathrow, I suspect if I were actually making the trip I could play around and get something better) .

I think I prefer pooping on planes to airport restrooms.

You could have fun in London as well.

My brother is running in the marathon the week before, maybe I should be going to cheer him on.
